Who would have thought their would be no Black hair products in Thailand??? I guess that’s my ignorance and I should have for sure researched before I came. When I arrived in Chaingmai,Thailand it was HOT!!! I mean HOT!!!!! I knew I needed some braids to keep my hair protected from the humidity and out of my face and off my neck from the heat. It’s a few people who braid hair in Chaing Mai, but were out of hair supply. The demand is SO REAL for black hair products. Ofcourse you would say, “Why wouldn’t I just order the products online” At this point I was staying at various hostels and didnt have a address!!!! I then went online and did a search for hair dressers in Bangkok, Thailand. That was my next best option.I was desperate so I booked a flight from Chaing Mai to Bangkok to get my hair braided. It cost me $40 on Air Asia for the flight. The flight was only 1 hour!!!
I found a place in prathnum that offered hair braiding services for Black women. When I walked in the shop their was a Thai owner who asked, “What I would like done?” I just looked at her and didn’t say anything!!! I never had a Thai lady do my hair and I didn’t want to offend her by asking, “Who’s going to be braiding my hair?” She caught the vibe and said I have a African Man who braids. Once again I became silent!!! Which, if you know me you know silence is rare for me!!! A man came from the back and said “How can I help you?” ” Do you know what style you would like?” I just looked at him and said I’m sorry I never had a man braid my hair before. He said, ” Trust me I braid very good.” He grabbed some hair and braided two braids in the front of my hair and I was VERY PLEASED with how they came out. I sat my appointment for the next day.
The Thai owner also sold hair which was wayyy more expensive then in the states. That’s where the supply and demand kicks in!!! At that point I had no choice but to purchase from her. All together I paid 4000 baht ($129ud including hair). The next day I came back and the Thai lady washed and combed out my hair for me (whi h was a first for me).

The African man styled my hair (Another first). *pictured him with another client*

I choose small box braids it’s been two months and the braids are still good. I would for sure reccomend you go to Nuals to get your hair braided. I thought I was opened minded but I wasn’t. This experience opened up my mind to getting outside of my comfort zone and trying something new!!!! Traveling abroad is filled with all kind of new experiences let go and enjoy the ride!!!! SAFE TRAVELS✌
