First Day In Thailand!!!

I’m so excited to be in Thailand!!! Land of the smiles!!! The flights were long!!!2 hour flight from Tampa to New York, 14 hour flight to Korea. Lastly, a 6 hour flight to Thailand. I made it!!!!

Today I met up with a girl who is in my class. While traveling I decided to get my TEFL certification. I will be able to teach English as a second language in any country. We are going to be taking a 4 week in person course starts February 4th. I love this idea because it incompartes 2 of my passions. Traveling and educating people. How awesome is That! It’s important that we all have an Oppurtunity to be successful in whatever area of life. Communication is key to success. Traveling has already open my eyes to NOT speaking the language. Being an English speaker in Thailand really open my eyes to their experience in the US. They come to the USA for the land of Freedom AND Oppurtunity but if you don’t speak the language your Oppurtunities have limits.

When we arrived to Thailand we booked a stay at Mad Monkey hostel the rate was $65 for 5 days. It’s a 6 bedroom shared dorm with girls from around the world. Hostels are cool because they are a great place to meet people especially if your a solo traveler.People will tell you the best places to eat, sightsee and of course the places not to go. This particular hostel offers fitness area, pool, restaurant, trips and tours around Thailand.

Today my classmate and I decided we were going to look for a monthly rental together. We stopped at a few different high rise condo buildings we saw by our school. The first building was super luxurious. We walked into the rental office and asked about the condo and the rental agent looked at us and said “Don’t Have.” Of course we felt some type of way because she didn’t even give us an opportunity to let her know exactly what we were looking for. We are foreigners so I get it.The next place we went had a security gate and the officer pulled out his phone to translate English. I thought that was a good idea. I need that app asap! He directed us to where we could get information. A really nice Thai rental agent assisted us and showed us the property. We were looking for a 2 bedroom and they only had 1 bedrooms available. That didn’t work for us so we kept going. The rental rates were so cheap. $250-$300 month for a 1 bedroom and $650-700 for a 2 bedroom. The next place we went was a condo building we saw online prior to arrival. To make a long story short they only rent to foreigners for 6 months or longer contracts. No monthly rental was found today.

We then went to the mall that was across the street and tried to get food. We didn’t KNOW what anything was on the menu so we had to stick with the basics. I had gyazos and my friend had shrimp, rice and veggies.pretty basic. We are hoping to find better choices tommorow. The mall was very modern it had stores like “POWER BUY.” We thought that name was brilliant!!! I guess that’s there equivalent of our Best Buy. They had stores like H&M and all the stores you can find in America. The malls close at midnight (which is really cool). We also had to find a bank to exchange currency. We had to have our passport to be able to do that. Overall the mall was a great experience.

After the mall we walked to the 7/11 looking for sim cards for our phones. We couldn’t figure that out either so we decided to head back to the hostel to get some free WiFi. Every where we went you had to purchase something to get Wi-Fi and put in your passport id info. We didn’t have time for all that ! LOL!!!

We tried to communicate to find a taxi and it was a horrible disatser. We literally walked for miles and miles asking people for information on Taxis and tuk tuk (which are considered taxis) but because we disnt speak the language we couldn’t figure it out. There was this lady who was so passionate about helping us. It was hilarious!!! She kept pointing and talking fast but no matter what we didn’t KNOW what she was saying. Such a sweet spirit. Eventually, we walked tons of miles back to the mall and found a taxi driver.

Our goal for the day was to find a place to stay for a month. Needless to say that didn’t happen . But we had a fun and adventourus day to say the least. Almost got hit by a few scooters and tuk tuk but we made it through the day! GOD is Good!!! Loving all these new experiences!
